1. When Dana went back to the Ante- Bellum south, Rufus was in a ditch and he was very sick, after helping him Mr.Weylin wanted to talk to him about saving his son and how she keeps on doing it.
2. Nigel tells Dana that Rufus has malaria and he began to shake and say that he is hurting all over; Dana suggest that Mr. Weylin gets a doctor but he says that Dana can save him.
3. Rufus is sick for many days and after he began to get better, Mr. Weylin has a heart attack but Dana can not revive him and Rufus blames her. She has learned that her ancestor has yet to be born from Alice and Rufus even though they already had two kids that died and one still living.
4. Rufus decides to punish Dana for not saving his father, so he has her working in the fields; she gets whipped many times throughout the day and it doesn't stop until she passes out.
5. When Dana wakes up from passing out, Rufus tells her that he is sorry for the way that he has been treating her and that his mother is coming back; and that she can do whatever she wants for the rest of the day.
