1. Lakshimi is trying to remember the things back home, like her mother, her little brother, and her goat. She is trying not to forget everything about where she came from.
2. Mumtaz finally tells Lakshimi that she can move around the house and interact with the other girls, but Lakshimi really does not know how to react becuase she has been in the same room for many days.
3. When she leaves the room, she goes to the dining area where the girls are having the midday meal, she does not sit at the table with them; but Shahanna brings her some food and tries to explain to her about how they watch television.
4. She has to share a room with six other girls, when it is time for them to get ready that night; all of the girls try to explain everything to her and what happens in the house.
5. Shahanna tells her how to keep track of the debt that she owes Mumtaz, but that she must not get caught. Lakshimi begans to get used to what is going on in the house and what she has to do.

1. Why are the girls so nice to her, I thought that they would be mean to her because she is new and becuase they have more competition?
2. Why isn't Lakshimi happy that she can move around the house freely with the other girls rather than stay in the same room woth no food or no one to talk to?
3. Why can't the girls keep track of their own debts, so that Mumtaz does not try to keep them longer then they should be there?
4. What motivates these girls to keep going everyday, instead of give up?
